There's a church in the valley by the wildwood,
No lovelier spot in the dale;
No place is so dear to my childhood,
As the little brown church in the vale.
These are the words to the famous song written over a hundred years ago about the little brown church in a northeastern Iowa town called Nashua. A few years ago we stopped to see this little church and to visit the place where Joel's parents and Moser grandparents were married so many years ago. The little brown church is a quaint place where thousands of couples go each year to "tie the knot". So if you happen to be in the area take a few minutes to tour this old church that was built in 1860 and you can almost hear that old song in the air and see the happy couples that have graced the doorways over the years. You can take a step back in time where the simple and sweet days of yesterday seem to make time stand still...an old hymnal and a wooden church pew...and all those years of promises made by so many couples over the years!
Check the virtual tour out on the website...go to http://www.littlebrownchurch.org/ for a visit!

Remembering Howard and Glenda with you. I visited that church once and it really is a lovely spot! Did Pam say that Erik is getting married there? How big is it?
Thanks for the picture and the personal account of your connection with "The Church in the Wildwood." Today is the 91st anniversary of the death of William Pitts, the author of the song. There is an interesting story behind the writing of it. You can check it out on my blog today, at Wordwise Hymns.
